The Ramboll Foundation hires its first Head of Philanthropy

Having worked with and in a number of Foundations previously, the Ramboll Foundation’s new Head of Philanthropy, Asbjørn Kristensen Høgsbro, knows how philanthropy can inspire new thinking and catalyse impact beyond what individual actors can achieve alone. We have asked him five quick questions to get to know him better.

What attracted you to the Ramboll Foundation?

What attracted me was the strong combination of high ambitions and grounded relevance. The Ramboll Foundation’s philanthropy strategy is ambitious and deeply rooted in the expertise of the Ramboll Group, and by leveraging the knowledge and networks of the whole company, we can really aim for long-term societal impact. The Foundation can fund projects and partnerships, but the biggest philanthropic asset is the expertise and knowledge of the people in Ramboll. I was also attracted by the values, strong integrity, and ‘realness’ of the Foundation and the company.

What is the first thing you will tackle in your new role?

I’ve hit the ground running working with Ramboll employees and external partners on concrete partnerships, projects, and grants. In terms of implementing the Foundation’s new philanthropy strategy, I will start engaging with the Foundation Board, stakeholders in and outside Ramboll, connecting with experts across the company, and starting to build the structures and partnerships needed to bring each philanthropic mission to life.

Can you describe your passion for philanthropy?

I’ve always been driven by the desire to make a positive contribution to the world, and to help others do the same. Philanthropy can play a powerful part in shaping the future – both by responding to urgent needs and by supporting long-term systemic change. I would also say, however, that positive contributions to the world can take all kinds of forms – commercial, not-for-profit, philanthropic – and I think philanthropy can have its biggest impact when uniting sectors and different ways of operating.

How do you see the Ramboll Foundation’s philanthropic impact develop over the coming years?

In the coming years, we will learn and grow in impact as we implement the new philanthropy strategy. I see us maturing portfolios of impactful initiatives and partnerships, and developing new models for engagement, knowledge-sharing, and impact. I’m sure we will increase our positive impact on society and nature, and our impact internally in the Ramboll Group.

What are you most excited about in your new job?

I’m excited about building something new together with others. It’s a rare opportunity to help shape a philanthropic approach from the ground up, together with skilled colleagues, a committed Board, and an extraordinary global company. I’m excited to connect with people, develop ideas, create structures, and turn ambitions into action.
