Employee-driven philanthropy

The Ramboll Foundation allocates funds to support initiatives and projects created by Ramboll employees, aimed at strengthening local communities worldwide. 

Since late 2025, the philanthropic possibilities for Ramboll employees have been expanded with a new track that enables employees to get support for projects that are close to their hearts. These projects live outside of our mission-driven philanthropy and are brought to life by dedicated employees who have ideas that make a difference beyond the value created for clients.

The employee-driven philanthropy is not limited by geographies or by strategy. Rather, they are driven purely by curiosity, passion, and empathy. The employee-driven initiatives further leverage the extensive knowledge and global network of Ramboll's employees.

Grants based on applications for employee-driven projects are handled internally.

CASE STOR­IES: EM­PLOY­EE-DRIV­EN PRO­JECTS

  • Scaling up solar-electric cooking, East Africa 

    Through strategic assistance, a team of Ramboll experts are working on the scaling up of solar-electric cooking in Kenya, with the objective to scale up to the rest of East Africa and beyond. Households cooking with electric induction stoves will start to benefit from a model that links digitally verified climate impact, carbon finance, and community dividends - cash paid back to households via a locally managed fund.

  • Home in every corner, Denmark

    The project “Home in Every Corner” at Vesterled Care Centre in Herning aims to strengthen the residents’ experience of living in a home rather than an institution. Based on analyses of the physical environment and the users’ experiences, work has been done to create a more secure, recognisable, and dignified everyday life for the residents at Vesterled. This is done through a series of design recommendations, from lighting to furniture to decorations, memory walls, etc.

  • STEM school competition, US

    Ramboll staff have been coaching elementary students weekly to discuss STEM topics in preparation for an annual science tournament. Topics include earth science, animal biology, and other STEM related topics. At the national competition, one of the three Mitchell Elementary teams received an ‘honorary mention’ for their contribution.

  • Youth employment, Kenya

    Ramboll volunteers work to design and pilot a partnership model (a donor coalition) that brings together Danish companies, the Confederation of Danish Industry, SOS Children’s Villages, and the Danish Embassy in Kenya to strengthen local communities and accelerate youth employment. Ramboll specifically supported SOS Children’s Villages in conducting a feasibility study on integrating circular IT skills into the existing iHUB curriculum.

  • Veterans’ hub in Mykolaiv, Ukraine

    Engineers Without Borders are working on a project transforming part of a university building into a veterans’ hub with focus on making the building accessible for people in wheelchairs. Ramboll volunteers conducted a 3D scanning and 360 camera survey of the building and subsequently processed the scans into drawings used by the Ukrainian architects. A web-based 3D viewer has been made available, allowing the model to be viewed directly in a browser without the need for specialised or heavy software.

  • Biodiversity and wellbeing, UK

    Ramboll volunteers engaged with the local schools and communities of Weston-super-Mare to obtain ecological enhancements of gardens and green spaces. The project spans four sites and focuses on improving accessibility, biodiversity and wellbeing, horticulture training and an appreciation of the natural environment. The Ramboll Foundation donated tomato, salad, and herb plants, as well as gardening tools for the children to use.
